Drama

The Drama curriculum aims not only to enable our students to make outstanding progress at KS3 and gain qualifications at KS4, but also to engage students with the best practice and preparation for a career in the wider world of Performing Arts.

Further details of the curriculum can be found in the documents downloadable from the bottom of this page.

To enable our students to fulfil these aims, we have developed an engaging, creative and diverse Drama curriculum that encapsulates our whole school ethos.

Belong. At the very core of our curriculum, we aim to arm students with the key performance skills that will in turn inspire them to create their own performance pieces. Students will learn to collaborate and work effectively as part of a group, sharing ideas and learning to work and communicate with others - a lifelong skill that can be transferred into any career beyond the Drama classroom.

Believe. We believe that Drama provides an opportunity to develop expression, creativity, confidence, self-esteem, and resilience. Students embark on a journey of personal growth through working with others, creating, performing and evaluating their own and others’ performances. By experimenting with performance in a safe space we believe that students grow in confidence and self-belief.

Become. We aim for all students to complete their studies with a sense of the meaning of Drama beyond the school gate. Students will become confident speakers and creators by the end of KS3 and further their knowledge of great performers and practitioners with the ability to understand both the process and product of professional theatre at KS4, should they choose to continue their artistic studies. Throughout their studies students will also have the opportunity to engage with the wider roles that are often ‘behind the scenes’ such as directing, producing, costume design or sound and lighting. Our curriculum offers students the chance to explore these roles and encourage students to take the next steps into a wider career in the Performing Arts industry.
