Homework Policy

Homework at Harris Academy Rainham

At Harris Academy Rainham, we expect all students to complete homework when set to ensure a deep understanding of the topics they are learning.  Homework provides students with an opportunity to think about and tackle knowledge in preparation for the lessons with their teachers and to consolidate and practice learnt knowledge to ensure it is transferred into their long-term memory.

Students and teachers follow a homework schedule in years 7, 8 and 9. As well as subject homework students will be expected to complete online tasks and quizzes on our online platform in maths and literacy.  It is vital that all students develop a secure set of numeracy and literacy skills and the homework system has been designed to support that goal.

In years 10 and 11 students will be set subject homework every week or depending on the needs of the subject and each piece should take approximately 60 minutes.

Students and parents can check the deadlines for all subject homework on Showmyhomework, using the login code which will be provided.

All students are expected to complete homework tasks by the due date set by their teachers. Failure to meet homework expectations will result in a 45 minutes homework detention where students will have the opportunity to complete homework then. The library is also available after school each day until 5.30pm to support students in completing their homework or to make use of internet access to complete the numeracy and literacy tasks.
