What will I study
Edexcel GCSE 9-1 History.
Paper 1 - Migrants in Britain c800-present.
Paper 2 - Early Elizabethan England 1558-88 and Superpower Relations and the Cold War 1941-91.
Paper 3 - Weimar and Nazi Germany, 1918-39..
Your curriculum will be planned to include field trips to sites of particular interest, and visits to the school by people and personalities who lived through some of these times. However, you will be encouraged to evaluate these events and debate the cause, effect and consequences.
How will I be assessed?
History is assessed through written exams.
Exams will test ability to explain and evaluate, as well as evaluate sources and interpretations.
Knowledge tests will also be used regularly to consolidate subject knowledge

History requires: Clear and accurate written communication; Critical and reflective thinking; Debating and discussion skills; Skills of analysis, explanation and making links; Handling of historical sources; Understanding of different historical interpretations; Perseverance, organisation and dedication; Enthusiasm for the past.
History is a highly respected academic subject and ideal for students hoping to apply to university, not just in History. It is also particularly useful for anyone considering journalism, law, teaching or a career in management, tourism or heritage. The wide range of skills you develop through a study of History (such as research, analysis and evaluation) will also benefit and complement many other subjects.
