What will I study
Students cover a range of increasingly advanced topics:
- Future ambitions;
- Role models;
- People’s rights and duties; and
- Childhood.
We also cover a range of new grammar points including:
- The conditional tense;
- The imperfect tense;
- Modal verbs; and
- Relative pronouns.
How will I be assessed
There are three assessment points spread throughout the year. In each, students are assessed on all five key skills:
- Listening;
- Speaking;
- Reading;
- Writing; and
- Grammar.
The assessments may draw on any material covered throughout the course, so students are expected to stay on top of their vocabulary learning.
Anything else I need to know
French requires: Independent study to master vocabulary; time management and organisation; attention to detail; problem-solving and pattern-spotting; creative thinking; a mind open to other cultures and other ways of doing things; resilience; and a willingness to make mistakes and learn from them.
French is recognised as an impressive, academic GCSE and, as such, is highly regarded by colleges, universities and employers. Put yourself in a business’s shoes: Would you rather employ someone who speaks one language, or someone who speaks two?
