Media Studies helps students develop a wider understanding and appreciation of the media, both historical and contemporary, and its role in society, culture and politics. Students will gain an understanding into the production processes of nine media forms as well as analysing the full course of study; Media Language, Media Industries, Representation and Media Audiences.

How will I be assessed
GCSE Media Studies consists of one piece of coursework (30%) and two written exams (35% each- 70%)
- Component 1 - Exam: Television and Promoting Media (70marks) 35%
- Component 2 - Exam: Music and News (70 marks) 35%
- Creating Media/ Coursework: Creating a magazine cover, double page spread and statement of intent. (30marks) 30%
Anything else I need to know
Media Studies requires: Clear and accurate written communication; Skills of analysis, explanation and making links between different topics as well as creative flair; good computer skills (if not, there is opportunity to build on this)
