Harris Federation Sports Day 2019
The Harris Academy Rainham athletics season came to a close with the Harris Federation Sports Day last week.
Much success has already been achieved this season, in the English Schools Track and Field Cup, Harris Federation Regional Qualifiers and district athletics.
The Harris Federation Sports Day, which is held at Crystal Palace National Sports Centre, brings together the best athletes from 24 secondary schools in the Harris Federation.
Harris Academy Rainham had 29 male qualifiers and 16 female qualifiers - significantly higher than the previous year.
The students that represented Harris Rainham on the day should be congratulated for a fantastic effort, leaving school at 6.30am and not returning to 3.30pm.
Culture of success
All students did the academy proud and special mention should be made of Year 7 and 8 students who have trained hard for this event in recent months and have started to create a culture of success in athletics on a local and regional level.
The Year 7 boys’ team and the Year 8 boys’ team had the best chances of a trophy as they had the most amount of qualifiers. The Year 7s all qualified apart from in the long jump, and the Year 8 boys all qualified for their events.
These two teams really stepped up to the mark on the day and demonstrated massive character. The medallists are all mentioned below.
- 200m Runner Up - Maxwell
- Relay Champions - Maxwell, Basit, Fernando and Harvey
- High Jump Runner Up - Harvey
The rest of team finished in the top seven in their events which led to our Year 7 boys’ team finishing runners-up overall out of 22 schools, a massive achievement in their first year.
- 200m Champion - Ethan
- 300m Runner Up - Conor
- 800m Runner Up - Josh
- Shot Put Champion - Ben
The remainder of the team all finished in the top five in their events which led the team to be crowned joint Champions with Crystal Palace. An outstanding achievement considering this team finished 8th last year.
There were also some other pleasing performances on the day.
- Hayden - 2nd in Year 10 boys shot put, throwing over 13m
- Ini - 2nd in Year 10 girls 800m
- Jerusha - 3rd in Year 8 girls 100m
I am deeply proud of all students who represented Harris Rainham on the day and throughout the course of the athletics season.
Students have worked hard to improve since last year and we have lots of success to build upon for next year. Well done all!
