Westminster Platform+ Encourages Ambitious Students
Four of our students have been accepted onto the Westminster Platform+ programme, an annual programme which targets ambitious, high-attaining Year 10 pupils across London.
The programme, which is located at Westminster School, a private school, is designed to fuel pupils’ ambition and enable them to flourish. It offers two streams, STEM and Liberal Arts. STEM covers Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Computer Science. While Liberal Arts covers History, Modern Languages, Religious Studies, English, Classics and History of Art.
Successful applicants participate in a free one-year programme of Saturday morning sessions, approximately every three weeks.
What students say...
Reon, Year 10, has just completed the first Liberal Arts session, which focussed on national identity. He writes:
"We began with an introduction to the English language, learning about Old English, Middle English and Early Modern English. During this segment of the session, we were told to translate The Nun's Priest’s Tale and other texts.
"As the session progressed, we were then introduced to Shakespeare’s histories. We had then been given an extract from one of the Henriad and had to annotate the extract and explain how Shakespeare portrayed the monarchy.
"To conclude, we then had to read a William Wordsworth poem about London. In a group discussion we were debating our thoughts on how we imagine the writer viewed London.
"Overall, so far, the experience has been exceptional, and I'm extremely appreciative to have been invited to one of the most reputable institutions in the world."
