Reading at Home
Reading at Home
Research shows that students who read for 30 minutes a day are more successful than those who do not. At Harris Rainham, we want to ensure academic success but also a life-long love of learning and reading. The Reading at Home initiative aims to support students with a weekly session of guided reading. We invite and welcome all parents/guardians and students to participate in the programme!
Please ask your child to:
- Complete the Microsoft form before and after watching the video (this will help us understand what they have learned)
Microsoft Form to be completed before and after watching the vidoe
- In the first instance, watch the video on meta-cognition questions (to help students understand how to develop their reading and learning skills)
Explanation of Meta - Cognition Questions
- Watch and enjoy the loom video with the reading of a challenging text
Meta-cognition is an educational strategy that encourages students to discuss their learning and make their thinking explicit; it has consistently high levels of impact. We hope your children enjoy these sessions and use the strategies to develop their reading and learning skills.
If you have any questions about the initiative, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs. Turker-Glodowska via the school office.
All the best and happy reading/viewing!
